Public Comment on seven ‘Sustainable Tourism Management’ Regional Standards
25 July 2024The Suriname Standards Bureau (SSB) received a letter from the tourism sector in May 2022, concerning a proposal for adopting the following CARICOM Regional Standards:
- CRS 66: Sustainable tourism —Environmental management systems –Requirements
- CRS 67: Sustainable tourism — Energy management and efficiency — Requirements
- CRS 68: Sustainable Tourism — Food safety and sanitation — Requirements
- CRS 69: Sustainable tourism — Water treatment, management and efficiency — Requirements
- CRS 70: Sustainable tourism - Solid waste management - Requirements
- CRS 71: Sustainable tourism - Sewage treatment and management - Requirements
- CRS 72: Sustainable tourism - Integrated Pest management systems - Requirements.
The goals of adopting these standards are to regulate and standardize accommodations in Suriname according to the requirements for environmental management, energy management, food safety, water management, waste management, sewage management, and pest management systems. This will enhance the tourism level, improve safety, and optimize customer satisfaction.
According to the standardization process, the standards to be adopted must first be sent for public comment before the SSB can further coordinate this process.
We hereby inform you and request your cooperation in reviewing and commenting on the aforementioned standards.
In light of the above, these standards will be available for Public Comment from July 16, 2024, to September 10, 2024. You can access/review the standards by clicking on the links included in the titles of the standards listed above.
