Give your products a unique identity with GS1 barcodes
Would you like to sell your products in stores or online, both in Suriname and internationally? Then GS1 barcodes are essential. The Suriname Standards Bureau (SSB) makes it easy for you to obtain barcodes for your products.


Why use a GS1 barcode?
GS1 barcodes are the international standard for product identification. A barcode allows your product to:

  • be scanned easily at points of sale;
  • be tracked throughout the supply chain;
  • be sold nationally and internationally;
  • be recognized by retailers and trading partners worldwide.

Each barcode is unique and is issued per product and packaging unit.


How do you apply for a barcode?
Has your label not been reviewed by the SSB before?
If your label has not previously undergone an SSB review, please complete both the Label Check Form and the Barcode Application Form.

As part of the application process, your label will first be screened against the Technical Regulation “General Requirements for the Labelling of Prepackaged Goods”.

A Label Check is not mandatory. However, if the screening shows that your label does not comply with the applicable requirements, a Label Check will be conducted. A fee of SRD 500 per label will be charged for this service. The process will be carried out in accordance with the label check procedure.

Upon approval of the label and payment, you will receive your barcode number(s) and corresponding barcode(s) within a maximum of 3 working days.


Has your label already been reviewed by the SSB?
If your label has previously been reviewed and approved by the SSB, you only need to complete the Barcode Application Form.

Upon payment, you will receive your barcode number(s) and corresponding barcode(s) within 3 working days.
