Establishment National Mirror Committee (NMC) Nutritional Labelling
05 November 2020The Surinamese Standards Bureau (SSB) has been participating since July 2019 in a Regional Project Team (RPT) of CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) that is involved in the development of the CARICOM Standard “Nutritional Labeling”.
This standard for “Nutritional Labeling” is intended to guide the consumer in the choice of food. Nutritional information provided should be selected based on consistency with nutritional recommendations.
In this context, three representatives have been delegated on behalf of Suriname who participate in this Regional Project Team. However, it is important that the representatives present a National position that reflects the relevant stakeholders.
Bearing in mind the above, the SSB has decided to install a National Mirror Committee (NMC) that has greater support and that can make decisions for Suriname in consultation. This NMC has been established to reflect the structure of a Regional / International technical commission, with the role of determining the National position. This means that this committee will monitor the Regional Process and determine the National Position to be presented by the final representatives in the Regional field.
The Surinamese Standards Bureau (SSB) has appointed an NMC of experts in accordance with its mandate. The NMC consists of the following members: Mr. Dave Rampersad (Rogom Group N.V. / R&D Rogom Farm N.V.) as chairman, Ms. Vanessa Hok (Poly Technic College Suriname) as under chairman, Ms. Anne Getrouw (Ministry of Health / BOG), Mr. Vikash Kanhai (Stg. Fish Inspection Institute), Mr. Laurenzo Tirtopawiro (Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)), Ms. Farishna Woodly (De Molen MeelMaatschappij N.V.), Mr. Rabin Soechit (Surinamese Business Association / Rijstpak NV), Ms. Krystal Wong A Foe (VSH FOODS), Ms. Chanella Cha-A-Jong (VSH FOODS), Ms. A. Tjung - Agnie (Ministry of Finance - Customs), Ms. Nadira Hellendoorn (Poultry Breeders' Collective Foundation (PKS)), Ms. Randjieta Patterson (Ministry of Education, Science and Culture).
Ms. Farishna Woodly of De Molen MeelMaatschappij N.V. has been chosen to represent Suriname in the Regional Project Team.
After the final approval of this standard by the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), the standard will be regionally established by CROSQ. After the standard has been established, it is also expected that it will be adopted by the SSB as a National Standard.
We hereby ask you to follow the updates of this standard on our website and Facebook page.
